Summary

Description

Close up of north Kessock Ferry Pier and the North Kessock Hotel.

Idyllic serene setting - only noise is slight "bump" as vehicles cross the expansion joints on the Kessock Bridge.

Some views taken on a lovely sunny morning from around the now disused Ferry Pier at South Kessock within the City of Inverness. The Pier served the Kessock Ferry (pedestrian and vehicular) which plied between Inverness and North Kessock (Black Isle in the County of Ross & Cromarty) for several centuries before being rendered obsolete in 1982 when the Kessock Road Bridge was opened. That bridge carried a new truck road northwards by direct route across the Beauly Firth (Loch Beauly as it was previously titled), thereby avoiding ferry journeys across the many inlets of the North Seas, or the alternative road route which laboriously and tediously followed each inlet sufficiently inland for bridging of the rivers which feed into the Firth.

As a result the village of North Kessock and its hinterland has become a dormitory suburb of the Cty of Inverness.

The ferry pier is now a quiet location, an ideal spot to watch the sea and admire the scenery.
