English: North Gate, Church Street, Brighton This is the northern entrance to the Royal Pavilion. It is an Indian-style gateway of Portland stone surmounted by a copper dome and flanked by two lodges. It has pillars and minarets, a lion and crown on the north side and Prince of Wales's feathers seen here on the south side. The letters 'W R IIII' (William IV) and the date MDCCCXXXII (1832) can be seen above the arch. The gate was erected in that year for King William IV by Joseph Good. It is now a listed building. |
