Summary
[edit]DescriptionNorth Elevation Gable and Bay at Southgate-Lewis House.jpg |
English: Victorian houses often exhibit a strong vertical emphasis and this is truly evident as one approaches the front door of the Southgate-Lewis House, as illustrated in this photograph of the north/front elevation. In contrast to the round bays and towers of a Queen Anne style Victorian house, the bay of the Southgate-Lewis House is more angular, with angular pilasters flanking the windows. As can be seen, there is a pair of diagonal brackets at the ends of the overhang of the steep gable. Note also the rather elaborate, ornate window casement moulding of the second story pair of windows. This casement moulding is found throughout most of windows of the Southgate-Lewis House. |
