Summary

[edit]
Description
English: North East Corner of the Church of St John the Baptist. The neat stonework in the foreground is the base of the belfry and clock tower of St John the Baptist. This Victorian east tower was built in 1886 and the inscribed stone on the angle records the laying of that foundation stone. See 536035. The Victorian tower replaces the 16th century west tower that collapsed on Good Friday 1881. The buttress to the side of the church is part of the much older structure that still stands, and the two carved stones in the foreground are part of the even older ruins that are at both ends of the church.
