ricots, nectarines, cherries, mulberries,grapes, pecans, English walnuts, Japan chestnuts, with many thous-ands of roses and ornamental trees and shrubbery. Four green-houses are used in the propagation and growth of ornamental plants.The nurseries occupy about three hundred acres of land. Greensboro Nurseries.—These nurseries are in the sameneighborhood as the Pomona nurseries, and this business is more ex-tensive about Greensboro than elsewhere in the State. Mr. John A.Young is the proprietor. They are east of the city of Greensboro, andhave at various times been under the management of difierent owners,but have been under the present ownership since 1884. The nurseriesoccupy two hundred and seventy-five acres of fine land. Thirty toforty men are annually employed as traveling agents and the tradeis mainly in this State, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, lyouisianaand Virginia. Young and Ivindley. Thk Cedar Grove Nurseries are situated at Shore, Yadkincounty, and conducted by N. W. Craft. The soil and climate arefavorable to the propagation of all varieties of ornamental, nut andfruit trees, as well as vines, shrubs and plants; all of which are keptin large numbers. Underdown Nurseries.—These nurseries were establishedsome twenty years ago, near lycnoir, in Caldwell county. The workis confined to fruits and grapes, and only such varieties as are knownby test to suit the surrounding region are propagated. These embraceamong other specialties, the follov/ing apples: Baldwin, Blackburn,Buckingham, Magnum Bonum, Edwards, Tuttle, Coffer, Cragg,Winesap and the never failing I,imbertwig.
