Summary

[edit]
Description
English: c/n 122-39874?.

Built 1945 for the USAAF with the US military serial 44-73415. Removed from service and stored in September 1950. One of several sold to Canada, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force with the serial 9289. Retired and sold off in July 1958, she moved back to the United States and continued to fly, for various owners, until written off in a fatal accident on 19th March 1977. Between 1985 and 1989 she was rebuilt for the Eagle Squadron Association using parts from various sources and in a deal with the RAF Museum she was then exchanged for Spitfire XVI ‘SL574’, now on display in San Diego. It is believed that the real 44-73415 was remodeled into a racer called Voodoo, and this aircraft was constructed using parts that were removed during the remodeling. Delivered to the UK in February 1989, further restoration work took place at RAF Halton before she went on display at Hendon in 1991. She was moved to Cosford in 2003 and wears the markings of a 357th Fighter Group aeroplane flown by a Commonwealth pilot, New Zealander Flt Lt Jack Cleland. She is seen on display in the ‘War in the Air’ hangar, although she has since gone into storage and is not currently on display (as of 2018). RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
