Title
North Adelaide Baptist Church, Tynte Street, North Adelaide
Description
The Baptist Church in Tynte Street, North Adelaide was photographed at around the time of opening in 1870. It became known as the most liberal Baptist church in Australia. The church originally began as a chapel in 1850, in Lefevre Terrace seating 350. When that proved too small, an acre of land was acquired in Tynte Street on which the current church was built –– the new building being opened in November 1870. The foundation stone of the Lefevre chapel can be found at the entrance to the current church.
