Description Original caption: "
It was in the City of Edmonton. Alberta. Canada, in August 1919, that I met John Hornby again. We had been troopers together in the 19 th Alberta Dragoons, in 1914, but, early in 1915, after being wounded and whilst still convalescent, I transferred to the British Army, and lost touch with my old companions-in-arms.

I only saw him for a moment in August, but in October he came to dinner with me at my Hotel. During our conversation, he mentioned casually that he was going north and suggested that I should accompany him.

I was acting, at that time, as an Inspector with the soldiers Settlement Board, but was not happy. Five years of War had left me restless and I craved excitement. So, without a moments thought, I promptly answered “yes”
