Glover, H. (Henry Heath), 1824-1904, artist (reproduced from a watercolour)

Western corner of Rundle Street (now Mall) and James Place. Established in 1847 and traded until 1990. Major renovations occurred in 1976 and thereafter the hotel operated as a basement venue. George James was the licensee from 1851 to 1874.

"Pedestrianism.—A. select few of the admirers of pedestrianism assembled yesterday at the house of Mr George James, Norfolk Arms Inn, Rundle-street, preparatory to proceeding to the Glen Osmond Road, for the purpose of witnessing the performance of an amateur pedestrian, who backed himself to walk a mile (fair heel and toe) in nine minutes. Punctual to the hour appointed, the man stripped to the flannel, set to work, and completed his task with twenty-five seconds to spare. A large number of persons were attracted to the spot, notwithstanding the desire of the knowing few to keep the affair a secret." Adelaide Times, Wednesday 9 April 1856, p2
