Description

Children's Carnival Pageant in New Orleans, 1935.

Original caption:

"The New Orleans Mardi Gras. A Scene from the Children's Carnival Pageant. Nor, the child king of Mardi Gras, reigns in New Orleans on the Saturday preceding Mardi Gras. At the head of a colorful pageant of 58 floats, he greets his loyal subjects, and particularly his Queen who awaits him on Canal street. His pageant usually depicts some phase of New Orleans history with the details being executed by New Orleans school children under the supervision of selected teachers. His 1935 subject was "The Streets of New Orleans" and the float illustrated here represents "Abundance Street." Nor's next appearance will be on Saturday, February 22, 1936. "
