| Description |
English: Nob End Locks, Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal This canal is now completely derelict, and although plans do exist for its restoration, it will be a gargantuan task. This photograph shows the top end of Nob End Locks, officially referred to by the company as Prestolee Locks, the vernacular name being considered vulgar. There were two staircases of three locks here. What has been lost to navigation has here been gained by the animal kingdom, as the area of these locks has become a haven for the (now not so) Common Toad, (Bufo bufo). |
