Description

Stained glass window in the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

I think I'm on solid ground (no pun intended) identifying this as a picture of Noah giving thanks for his safe delivery from the Great Flood.

How do we know this isn't Noah praying for delivery from the Great Flood shortly before boarding the vessel, raising the gangplank and waiting for the first drop of rain?

Why the rainbow, of course, which was god's promise that if he totally lost patience with humankind again, he'd find some other way to vent.

Now, there's only so much space in a stained glass window, and the figures have to be large enough to be read from ground level, which may be far below the windows.

Still, I think the artist missed a great opportunity to depict a multitude of different animals in stained glass. People, schmeople - I want to see the zebras, the giraffes, the macaws and the monkeys!
