Description

Diagram showing British No. 80/44 Mark V Time Fuze, World War I. This was the basic No. 80 Time and Percussion Fuse, with the percussion mechanism removed and replaced by a wooden block.

Its primary use was for anti-aircraft guns. The removal of the percussion mechanism eliminated the danger of high-explosive shells which failed to explode correctly in the air after the expiration of the preset time, exploding when they struck the ground.
