På anmodning fra Det Internasjonale Arbeidsbyrå (ILO) og Folkeforbundet reiste Fridtjof Nansen sammen med en utpekt kommisjon sakkyndige for å besøke landet og undersøke planer for kunstig vanning av ørkenområder med tanke på å overføre armenske flyktninger dit.

On request of the International Labour Union (ILO) and the League of Nations, Fridtjof Nansen travelled together with an appointed committee of experts, visiting the country and looking at the plans for artificial irrigation of parts of the desert, in order to relocate refugees there.

Auf Aufforderung des Internationalen Arbeitsbüros (ILO) und dem Völkerbund reiste Fridtjof Nansen zusammen mit einer ausgewählten Kommision Fachleuten zu einem Besuch im Lande um die Pläne für künstliche Bewässerung der Wüstengebiet zu untersuchen. Die Idee war, armenische Flüchtlinge dorthin zu überführen.
