Båten skulle brukes for raskest mulig å kunne varsle det ventede skipet «Fox» om ekspedisjonens ankomst til vestkysten. Ett av bildene fra ekspedisjonen over Grønland i perioden juli 1888 til mai 1889. Fridtjof Nansen sammen med 5 norske deltagere krysset Grønland i løpet av en 42-dagers skiferd fra øst- mot vestkysten.
English: Otto Neumann Knoph Sverdrup next to the canvas boat that he made together with Fridtjof Nansen from the materials available. The boat was to be used to notify the waiting ship «Fox», as quickly as possible, of the expedition's arrival on the west coast. One of the pictures from the expedition to Greenland in the period July 1888 to May 1889. Fridtjof Nansen together with 5 other Norwegian participants crossed Greenland in the course of a 42-day skiing trip from the east to the west coast.

Das Boot sollte für eine raschest mögliche Benachrichtigung des wartenden Schiffes ³Fox² gebraucht werden, dass die Expedition an die Westküste erreicht hat. Eines der Bilder von der Expedition über Grönland in der Zeit Juli 1888 bis Mai 1889. Fridtjof Nansen überquerte Grönland zusammen mit 5 norwegischen Teilnehmer im Laufe einer 42-tägigen Skitour von der Ost- zur Westküste.
