Object history | Soon after it was made in about 1925, the Simplex windmill was erected in the Muttaburra district of Queensland on a part of Kensington Downs station, which became Kenya station in 1929. Large parts of the Muttaburra district lack permanent natural water sources and sustained pastoral production required the installation of infrastructure to deliver water to livestock. Windmill technology achieved an iconic status in Australian culture because it enabled the settlement of dry pastoral regions of inland Australia. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
