Object history | Prior to the invention and popularity of photography as a medium, panoramas were a common way of illustrating the changing face of a city, and some were used to promote migration to British colonies. Despite their popularity, few panoramas have survived. The artist and intended audience for this panorama are unknown, but the panorama clearly illustrates the increasing industrialisation and modernisation of nineteenth-century Melbourne. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
