The basalt of which the obelisk from Ximroud, and the sittingfiguie from Kalah Sherghat were made, is procured abundantlyfrom the mountains of Kurdistan, in the neighbourhood of Jezirah;and it is probable that the obelisk which, according to a tradition,Semiramis procured from the Armenian mountains, was of thesame material.
