Gare de Zurich, Suisse Niki de Saint Phalle doit sa renommée mondiale à ses «Nanas», sculptures monumentales à la féminité exubérante et joyeuse. Née en 1930 en banlieue parisienne, Niki de Saint Phalle a principalement grandi aux Etats-Unis. De retour à Paris en 1951, elle peint ses premières œuvres dès 1953. En 1964, elle réalise ses premières «Nanas» – sculptures féminines polychromes aux formes plantureuses – à partir de structure métallique et de textile. Elle change rapidement de technique pour privilégier le polyester. Si ces figures ont initialement soulevé un véritable scandale dans le monde de l’art et étaient la risée des autres artistes, elles ont depuis acquis leurs lettres de noblesse auprès du grand public et des spécialistes. Elles incarnent à présent l’expression contemporaine du féminin. Animée par l’ambition que ses sculptures symbolisent des femmes libérées et joyeuses, l’artiste intitule sa première exposition «Nana Power».
