| Description |
English: A roller print (single sided) four color wax print from Nigeria, in green, gold, red & black on white. It commemorates Pope John Paul II's second visit to the country in 1998. It's dated "March 21st - 23rd 1998". Selvage reads "Nortex Guaranteed Super Print" with no design number. Includes the original yellow paper tag that reads the same.
Design features a circular framed portrait of the Pope with his name on scroll, a dove shining light upon him from above (signifing the Christian Holy Spirit). Of almost equal size is a portrait of "Blessed Cyprian M[ichael] Iwene Tansi" (1903-1964) an Igbo Roman Catholic priest and Cistersian from near Onitsha, Anambra State. He was Beatified by the Pope on March 22, 1998, in Oba. A first step to Sainthood, which would make him the first Nigerian and West African Roman Caholic Saint, Fr. Iwene Tansi is shown in a frame map of Nigeria, with "Beatification" beneath, and the "Holy Spirit" light shining onto him as well. The coat of arms of the Vatican appears next to Fr. Iwene Tansi. The field is filled with small swirl patterns, and an artificial crinkle pattern is added to the edges. |
