Description
English: Nidd Viaduct, Knaresborough "1851. Engineer Thomas Grainger for the Leeds and Thirsk Railway. Gritstone. Approximately 100 metres long and 30 metres high, carrying 2 tracks on 4 arches. 2 central round arches span the river ... Round cut-waters carried up as buttresses with projecting bands and small half-towers at top. Embattled parapet. Work on the viaduct was begun in 1847, but the bridge collapsed in 1848." https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1149911 Between the arches are houses on Waterside.
