Description
English: Nicholette Yerkes, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Portland District employee deployed to Afghanistan, talks with a child at the Tahya-e-Maskan Orphanage in Kabul, Afghanistan, Jan. 14, 2012, while participating in Operation Warmth. Yerkes, an administrative support specialist supporting construction operations, and seven other Corps employees serving at Afghanistan Engineer District-North delivered winter clothing to the orphanage as part of the operation. The Afghan government oversees 35 orphanages in the country, housing and educating 8,600 boys and girls up to age 18.
