English: Congressman Newt Gingrich congratulates Charlene Kwon (third from left) a sophomore at Wheeler High School, holding her painting "Still Life #1", as the winner in the Sixth District 1996 Congressional High School Art Competition. Other Cobb County winners are, from left, Amy Fineman of the Walker School, fifth place; Tiffany Pompey, Dunwoody High School, fourth place. Miss Kwon, Rep. Gingrich, Andrea Foster of Mt. Paran School, third place; and Sean Greathead of Pope High School, second place. The students were honored at a reception March 9 at the Hewlett- Packard Center in Dunwoody attended by their families and art teachers. Miss Kwon, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Kwon, and her art teacher, Linda Nicholson, will attend the national awards ceremony June 25 in Washington. Her winning artwork will be displayed in the nation's Capitol. The contest is part of "An Artistic Discovery," an annual competition sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize the creative talents of young Americans. Other top entries will be displayed at Rep. Gingrich's Congressional Office in Washington, the Sixth District Office in Marietta and the Speaker's office. |
