Summary
[edit]DescriptionNewport Castle from St Mary's churchyard.jpg |
English: Newport Castle seen from St Mary's churchyard, near Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The castle was built by William fitz Martin at the end of the 12th century. The castle once comprised a massive gatehouse flanked by a circular dungeon tower to the southwest and the Hunter's tower to the northwest. A large D-shaped tower was built to protect the vulnerable southeast side. The gatehouse was converted to use as a private residence by the Lloyds of Bronwydd in 1859.[1] |
