English: Newent railway station remains You can still make out the platforms, although the first time I visited here in the early 1990s they were even more overgrown than here. This shot was taken some time after volunteers had cleared the site; see David Stowell's photo at 61926 which shows the platforms pretty much clear of vegetation.. The railway was - for the most part - built along the line of the out-of-date-before-it-opened Gloucester to Hereford canal, and now that the railway itself has closed there's a scheme to restore the canal to navigation. |
