Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Newburgh: the old mussel shed The Ythan estuary supports a huge population of common mussels Mytilus edulis. Today they are eaten mainly by the eider ducks resident in the area but in the past they were harvested in large numbers for bait for long line fishermen. This stone structure is all that remains of a bothy that was used by the mussel harvesters. It was still roofed and in use in the early 1970s.
