[edit]DescriptionNew solutions for preserving snow in the Austrian Alps (Copernicus).jpg |
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 30 October 2021, shows the Thurn Pass near Kitzbühel in the Austrian Alps. A thermal snow covering has been tested at the Thurn Pass. At the end of the 2020/2021 winter season, the snow on a two-kilometre stretch was covered with special thermal blankets, which ensured that the snow was perfectly preserved until the end of October. The condition of the snow was so good that it allowed the ski season to reopen before the snow covered the surrounding peaks. Using data from the Copernicus satellites, it is possible to acquire information on snow cover levels worldwide. |
