Additionalmeans are furnished on extraordinary occasions, whereby the ca-pacity of the Dock can be made equal to that of three of thelargest stone docks in the world. The reputation of this NavyYard, and the excellence of the vessels it has furnished to theGovernment, amply attest the superiority of Philadelphia ship-wrights. The United States Mw^(Chestnut, near Broad street,) presentsa front of 122 feet, and is of the Tonic order. The steam enginein this building is the perfection of its kind, and the mechanicalcontrivances for milling, stamping, &c. are curious and interest-ing.
