| Description |
English: Designed by Kathleen Kinan, the house at 839 Prospect Avenue on the Lower West Side of Buffalo, New York was described in the pages of Buffalo Rising as the most architecturally interesting new house to be built in Buffalo in 2021. It's an interesting design: while, broadly speaking, the dimensions of the rear portion of the house don't differ terribly much from its neighbors, it's an entirely different story in the front portion of the building, most visible from the street. The façade consists of two distinct halves: on the right, there's a two-story atrium sporting a corrugated metal façade, surrounded by a wraparound porch and with a column of windows centered on the south corner of the house, while the main entrance is contained in a clapboard-sided, recessed vestibule at left. The roof, with its unusual angles, calls to mind the "butterfly" aesthetic favored by Midcentury Modernist architects such as Richard Neutra. As seen in January 2022. |
