Our "new" second car: 1999 Toyota Camry 3.0i V6 auto. We managed 5 months without a second car, but it started to become a logistical headache the last few weeks.... Requirements for a second car were: - cheap to buy (around £1K) - A year long MOT - auto gearbox (we are converts....) - not a pain to drive (ie: not too slow...) - not too small - cheap to insure - pre-2001 (cheap-ish Motor Tax for larger engines) And most important of all: should last us at least until next MOT. If it doesn't pass and it is too costly to repair, then we will look for another one applying same selection requirements...! A week ago I would have never imagined we would own a Camry... Unlike North America, these cars are not very common over here, so they were never on our "shopping list"... This car ticked all the boxes and more. It is in mint condition despite 115K miles on the clock...! If lasts us 6 months: I will be very disappointed. If it lasts a year: mission accomplish! If it last longer: bonus bonus bonus! I don't want to jinx it but I think I am onto winner here...! |
