nd ninety-four women were cared for in their homes. TheDispensary connected with this Department has cared for thirty-fourhundred and forty patients. For the care of the sick, graduate and pupil nurses are in attendance.A graduate nurse is in charge of each department of the Hospital and sheis aided by pupil nurses. The latter come to us for three months fromaffiliated hospitals in which they are taking a general course in nursing.It is planned to offer to the pupil nurses of the affiliated hospitals afurther course in the care of children. For all these activities, coupled with the up-keep of the new buildingthe need of funds is always present. The Hospital is not self-supporting.It has no endowment. Notwithstanding a small per capita payment bythe City for the care of its public charges, it is dependent entirely uponthe generosity of its friends for the support of its all-important work,which was begun in 1823 and has been continually carried on for ninety-three years. Report of the President N the date of the last annual report the old North Househad been torn down and the work of excavation for the newbuilding begun; an appropriation of $100,000 having beenmade for its construction. This amount was subsequentlyincreased to $125,000. During the past year, and after the adoption of valuable recom-mendations received from members of the Board and others, manyminor changes and improvements have, as the work progressed, beenmade. The President has to thank the other members of the BuildingCommittee for the conscientious efforts they have given to their duties. There has been expended to date on the new building $80,130.75.It is fast approaching completion and ought to be ready for occupancyabout the end of December. It, together with the alterations to the oldbuilding essential to unite the two into one institution, gives us an en-larged hospital fitted with modern appliances and able to fulfill both themedical and charitable purposes which have ever b
