[edit]DescriptionNew York Harbor, from Two World Trade Center (5678393896).jpg |
At the World Trade Center complex, the South Tower (Two World Trade Center) featured a rooftop observation deck, and it was the highest point in New York City accessible to the public. Here is a view of the harbor from the rooftop deck. Because of the view of the water, I vastly preferred the World Trade Center view to the more inland view from the Empire State Building. This would be the first and the last time I would ever visit the World Trade Center observation deck. The terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 destroyed the building and forever took away this view. (And even more sadly, the plane that was crashed into the building that day would turn out to be the one I would often fly between New York and Los Angeles later in the 1990s.) Coincidentally this photo was digitized and uploaded late on May 1st, 2011, just as the news of the death of Osama bin Laden, the man who had masterminded the 2001 terrorist attacks, was spreading. I had not heard the news until a few hours after the upload, and did not believe it until hearing an official statement from President Obama. |
