| Description |
English: The first diesel locos to see service in Australia - NSWR 190 hp Class 79 Bo-Bo No.7921 at Trainworks, the New South Wales Railway Museum, Thirlmere 31 March 2016. This class is of standard US Army Transportation Corps design, 348 of which were built by GE (Erie) 1940-56. 4 lend-lease locos were sent to work in Australia (the Dunheved munitions works) in 1943 under the management of the NSWR. After WWII, 2 were sold to the NSWR and 2 to the Commonwealth Government which used them at the Woomera Rocket Range. They were withdrawn in the 1980's. |
