Summary

[edit]
Description
English: NSWR 'Standard Suburban' 1,500 V dc emu driving car No.T4310 (built by Walsh Island Dockyard, Newcastle in 1927) in Tuscan Red livery at Trainworks, the New South Wales Railway Museum, Thirlmere 31 March 2016. These were the first all-steel cars in NSW. 352 motor composites (incl. 50 rebuilt from loco-hauled coaches), 248 trailers (6 rebuilt as driving trailers in 1937) and 3 parcels vans were built in 1925-29 by Leeds Forge, Clyde Engineering and Walsh Island Dockyard. In addition, some 'American'-type loco-hauled suburban stock was converted to work with the units, which operated in various formations ranging from 2 to 8-car sets. They were withdrawn in 1970-92.
