Influence of New Mexico Upon Art 401 exhaustive endeavours are clearly depicted upon the facesof the dancers, and the whole effect of terraced-houses,spectators, dancers and feeling is truthfully and artistic-ally rendered. Of the two paintings of Carlos Vierra,— one of theNew Art Museum of Santa Fe, and the other of the oldFranciscan Mission of Zia,— it may be said that theyare fine, artistic expressions of his almost passionate andreverent devotion to the native architecture of New Mex-ico. Reference to the chapter devoted to this subject willshow that he is the principal exponent of this fascinatingtheme. The painting by William Lees Judson, Dean of theFine Arts Department of the University of SouthernCalifornia, representing the Easter Procession of thePenitentes, is a picture of peculiar value and worth.
