Summary

[edit]
Description
English: New Forest pony on burnt heathland between Howen Bottom and Homy Ridge. The heathland is periodically burnt (small areas at a time) to prevent encroaching woodland and gorse, and to encourage all the species of heath flora and fauna to flourish. It also results in a flush of grass for the wandering stock to graze on.
