Summary

[edit]
Description
English: New Cut New Cut is the river channel that was cut through the south of the city to carry the water of the River Avon. The tidal new cut was made from Netham to Hotwells when the floating harbour was constructed in 1809. This allowed ships to enter the port of Bristol through lock gates and not be affected by the huge tides of up to 40 feet that affect the Avon at this point. This is the view west downstream at mid tide.
