Summary

[edit]
Description Recovery Act-funded work on a new core sampling platform is nearing completion. Nicknamed “the crab” for its crustacean-like legs, the platform houses a drill, x-ray machine, and a rack to hold samples. The 23,000-lb. steel platform requires a crane to lift it into place, yet is so nimble that you can rotate the platform with the force from your hand. The platform will replace aging equipment and also help more accurately sample and characterize tank waste.
