Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Nevison's Leap, Ferrybridge Road, Pontefract. Ferrybridge Road now very wide, was once a narrow gorge with steep cliffs at either side. The 17th Century Highwayman, William or John Nevison was reputed to have leapt over the gorge at this point (the blue plaque can be seen on the cliff wall 1701582) to escape his pursuers. Nevison's ride from London to York was later attributed to Dick Turpin. This photograph should be viewed in conjunction with the close up photograph of the blue plaque on the cliff wall.
