Summary
[edit]DescriptionNeuschwanstein Castle Bavaria Germany.JPG |
English: Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th Century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as homage to Richard Wagner.
The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the reclusive king, but it was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886.Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. The palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle and later, similar structures. It was also nominated in one of Top 20 Wonders of the World in the year 2007 The palace can be regarded as typical for nineteenth-century architecture. The shapes of Romanesque (simple geometric figures such as cuboids and semicircular arches), Gothic (upward-pointing lines, slim towers, delicate embellishments) and Byzantine architecture and art (the Throne Hall décor) were mingled in an eclectic fashion and supplemented with 19th-century technical achievements. Neuschwanstein Castle as seen from Marienbrücke (Marie's Bridge, or Pöllatbrücke). Marienbrücke is across the Pöllat directly behind and directly visible from Neuschwanstein Castle. The bridge was named by Ludwig II of Bavaria after his mother, Marie Friederike of Prussia. This photo was taken by me from the same Bridge and the view of the Palace from this place shows its serene Beauty and also gives glimpses of the modern panorama from Neuschwanstein (1,008 m or 3,307 ft) showing locality of Hohenschwangau in the background. |
