Das Neue Museum (ehem. Landesmuseum) in Weimar

Der erste Zweckbau für museale Nutzung in Thüringen wurde 1864-68 nach den Entwürfen des tschechischen Architekten Josef Zitek im Stil der Neorenaissance erbaut und als „Großherzogliches Museum“ eröffnet. Er gehört zu den bemerkenswertesten Museumsbauten des 19. Jhs. in Deutschland. Architektonisch bemerkenswert ist das Treppenhaus mit einer überlebensgroßen „Goethe-Statuette“ nach einem Entwurf Bettina von Arnims. Das Landesmuseum wurde seinerzeit für historische und zeitgenössische Kunst genutzt; heute kann man im „Neuen Museum“ wechselnde Ausstellungen moderner Kunst finden.
