Sie besitzendoppelten Schläfendurchbruch, keinen Präorbitaldurchbruchund weit zurückliegende paarige Nasenöffnungen. Ihr primi-tiver Charakter zeigt sich in der Gaumenbezahnung auf Voinerund Palatinum. Mit den Ichthyosauriern ist die Ähnlichkeiteine rein physiologische; die doppelten Schläfengruben alleinschon sprechen gegen jede Spur einer Verwandtschaft. Mitden Phytosauriern ist die Ähnlichkeit eine ganz äußerliche,veranlaßt etwa durch die Form der Schläfenlöcher und dieLage der Nasenöffnungen. Es fehlen die Präorbitaldurch-brüche; die kleinen Parietalia und Nasalia und die großenFrontalia sprechen stark gegen solche Verwandtschaft, auchgreifen die Prämaxillen nicht zwischen das Vomerpaar einund es ist ein großes Complementare im Unterkiefer vor- 46 F. v.
