Description

Town Hall was built in 1618-1620, with the medieval tower "Het Steen" dating from the late 13th century and originates from a count's court. It was in the 15th century that it became the town hall. At that time a stone top storey was added to the brick tower.

The Coat-of Arms are of William I, Prince of Orange, also widely known as William the Silent, or simply William of Orange . He was the main leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish that set off the Eighty Years' War and resulted in the formal independence of the United Provinces in 1648. He was born into the House of Nassau as a count of Nassau-Dillenburg. He became Prince of Orange in 1544 and is thereby the founder of the branch House of Orange-Nassau.
