Art of 1 Nephi 16 in the Book of Mormon, depicting Nephi bringing food to his family
Summary
[edit]DescriptionNephi Returning to the Tents with Food, by HW, May 1925.png |
English: Nephi Returning to the Tents with Food, an illustration that accompanied Genet Bingham Dee's "Living by Faith in a Wilderness", True Stories We All Love, The Children's Friend 24, no. 5 (May 1925): 204–206, here 204. Shows a scene from 1 Nephi 16 in the Book of Mormon. In the upper left of the scene is Nephi, facing forward (so the viewer can see his face), toward his family (who fill the lower and right portions of the image). Nephi holds aloft in his left hand a makeshift bow of wood; his right hand holds an animal carcass thrown over his shoulder. He is dressed in a fur tunic that stops above his knees. He wears a belt and sandals and a headband. His hair is curly and goes to about past his ears. His frame is somewhat slender. A crowd fills the lower left and right sides: his family. A sitting man with curled, long hair and a thick beard, with a cap and a thick cap, raises his right hand to wave to Nephi: this is Lehi. Multiple other men with beards are visible. Two who stand near each other and have very similar hair and goatees are likely Laman and Lemuel (based on other art by H. W. in the 1925 run of the Friend). Multiple women are in the scene; two visibly wear head coverings and hoop earrings. One appears to be nursing an infant. Including the nursing infant, three young children are visible in the scene. In the background, as if denoting the edge of their encampment, tents are visible. In the lower right corner, a jug (perhaps on a table?) is visible, and so is the text "NEPHI RETURNING TO THE TENTS WITH FOOD". In the lower left corner is a signature initial: "HW". |
