Title |
Neoltihic laurel leaf-shaped arrowhead (dorsal) |
||
Description |
English: Flint laurel leaf-shaped arrowhead, ovate in plan, and lozenge-shaped in profile and section, with traces of grinding and polishing on the medial ridge of the dorsal face. The arrowhead is bifacially retouched around the entire circumference of the piece, on all margins, including the proximal end where the curvature of the edge ends in a slight barb on the right margin of the ventral face. This end might have been reworked after the original tip of the arrowhead broke off, probably during use, in order to form a new point.
The flint is an opaque light grey colour, which suggests that it was probably derived from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is about 4:3. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example of a leaf-shaped arrowhead on page 123, Fig.5.106, Type 1Bf, and a similar example of a laurel-leaf arrowhead on page 134, Fig.5.120, No.F41, which are both dated to the Earlier Neolithic period. |
