Title
Neolithic knife
Description
English: A Neolithic flint possible sickle, measuring 138.07x41.71x15.49mm and weighing 83.81g.

One long edge is straight while the other is curving. The curved edge has low angle retouch with pressure flaking at the edge. It has polish/ gloss on both faces of the knife at the edge. Both faces of the implement have had retouch, especially towards the curved edge, although one has had rather more work than the other. The straight edge has no retouch.

The flint is grey in colour with some lighter grey patches.

Mike Trevarthen comments 'This could be classed as a Neolithic sickle - there is a similar unpublished example from a pit at the western end of the Poundbury development, where it was associated with Early Neolithic pottery forms. This is described as a possible unfinished single piece sickle. Wessex Archaeology 2007, Land to the North of Poundbury farm, Poundbury, Dorset: Archaeological Evaluation Report. Unpublished report, reference 60021.02.
