Title
Neolithic flint serrated blade
Description
English: A flint serrated blade dating from the Early Neolithic period. The blade is 42mm long, 18.7mm wide and 7.1mm thick. The blade has a left edge which is straight and a curved right edge which is serrated at the distal end. The notches seem to have been made by removing flakes from the dorsal face at the proximal end, and from the ventral face at the distal end. There is some edge damage to the left side. Some cortex remains at the proximal end of the right side. The flint is mid grey in colour and is of good quality with no visible inclusions. Serrated blades are frequently found on early Neolithic sites (Butler 2005, “Prehistoric Flintwork”).
