Title
Neolithic flint axe roughout
Description
English: Possible roughout for the manufacture of an axe, or a tranchet adze, made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with some recortication. Small spots of cortex survive. Bifacially flaked to produce a pointed oval section with some battering on edge. One end sharpened with a tranchet flake, the other steeply truncated. While this object may be a roughout it is also possible that it was a Mesolithic tranchet axe. The style of the flaking supports a Neolithic date. Length 102mm, Width 44mm, Thickness 21mm, Mass 130.2g.
