Title
Neolithic backed end and side scraper (profile)
Description
English: Flint backed end and side scraper, semi-circular in plan and sub-rectangular in profile and lozenge-shaped in section. The scraper has been unifacially reworked on the distal end and the right margin of the dorsal face, and naturally truncated at the proximal end where cortex remains from the original surface of the flint pebble. The left margin of the dorsal face has been worked so that it is backed for handling or hafting.

The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour, made from a local beach pebble, with cortex surviving, suggesting that it is a secondary flake. The length to breadth ratio is about 4:3.

Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 145, Fig.5.131, No.9, which is dated to the Beaker period; and another on page 151, Fig.5.135, No.F123, which is dated to the Early Bronze Age.
