Title
Neolithic Leaf-Shaped Arrowhead
Description
English: Lithic Implement: Incomplete flint arrowhead of Neolithic, probably early Neolithic, date. The arrowhead is leaf-shaped and bi-facially worked with invasive retouch present on both faces. Approximatley half of the arrowhead survives. It is probably the tip which has survived although as some arrowheads were produced with both the tip and base knapped into a point it is not possible to be certain. The flint is semi-translucent and has a creamy-beige patina.

Leaf-shaped arrowheads are broadly dated to the Neolithic period, c.3500 BC - c.2100 BC with the peak of their production thought to be in the early Neolthic period, c.3500 BC - c.2900 BC with a decline in production through the middle Neolithic, c.2900 BC - c.2500 BC and a lack of firm evidence to suggest that production continued into the later period although such arrowheads have been found in late Neolithic and Bronze Age contexts (Book Reference: see C.Butler, 'Prehistoric Flintwork', 2005, pages 122-125).
